Book Review- The Christmasaurus by Tom Flecher

The Christmasaurus is a story about a boy named William Trundle and a dinosaur, the Christmasaurus. It’s about how they meet one Christmas Eve and have a magical adventure. It’s about friendship and families, sleigh bells and Santa, singing elves and flying reindeer, music and magic. It’s about discovering your heart’s true desire and learning that the impossible might just be possible.

Forget everything you knew about the north pole, pop a crumpet in a toaster and get ready to meet:

A boy called William Trundle;

His dad, Mr Bob Trundle;

Santa Claus (yes! The real Santa Claus);

And elf named Snozzletrump;

Brenda Payne, the meanest girl in school (possibly the world);

A nasty piece of work called Hunter;

A most unusual dinosaur…

Summary

William Trundle is a boy who lives with his Christmas Obsessed father in a wonky house. He uses a wheelchair and is obsessed with dinosaurs. William is bullied by Brenda Payne the meanest girl in school, and possibly the whole world. However, when Christmas comes along it is time to hang up the stocking and make Christmas lists. There is only one thing on William’s Christmas list, a dinosaur.

 However, never in his wildest dreams did he think Santa would bring him a real-life dinosaur, possibly the only dinosaur left in the world! The Christmasaurus is a kind caring creature who was raised by the jolly man himself. Together they have an amazing adventure consisting of sleigh bells and a bunch of magic and miracles

They team up with an unexpected ally against the Hunter and his nasty dog Growler. Together they must help the Christmasaurus, the rarest creature in the world, from being kidnapped by Hunter. Making some friends in the process!

Review

The Christmasaurus is a truly magical book full of diversity, magic and the Christmas spirit. Just reading this book has made me long for that time of year. ThChristmasaurus is about William who is a boy in a wheelchair who is constantly bullied. Tom Flecher has done a great job in describing how that feels like and what he must do on a daily basis. Like when he accidentally runs over people’s feet, or the way he can’t bend down and pick up a pencil.

It is just brimming with adventure and new possibilities. The perfect book for Christmas. Another enjoyable aspect of reading the book was the rhymes and songs which the elves sing. It is so funny to read a book which gives Christmas elves different characteristics and backgrounds. Such when Mr Trundle tells William about how presents are made.

Such creativity and imagination! The illustrations also deserve some major credit, I love the way each illustration matches the description to the core, even the personalities match the faces.

“Music is a magic like no other, which can do incredible, unexplainable things.”

This book has its fair number of quotes, that’s the thing with Christmas novels, they need to possess important messages and magic. That’s what makes the book worth the read, that feeling of joy and happiness. The Christmasaurus is very well written from the backstory to the prologue. This is the perfect Christmas present in my opinion!

 This book is recommended for readers between the ages 9 and 13, however, there is no limit for imagination! Great both primary and secondary schoolThis book is the following genres, holidayChristmas, fantasy, and children.
